Barcus-Berry - Tradition of Innovation
Over four decades of innovative leadership are deeply ingrained in the history of  Barcus-Berry. In 1963, experiments initiated by violinist John Berry and electronics visionary Les Barcus, gave birth to the first ever piezo crystal transducer for musical instruments. This discovery ultimately led to Barcus-Berry's introduction of several "firsts" in the music industry, such as the first electric violin, the first successful piezo transducers for guitar, piano and concert harp, the first commercially marketed active direct box, the first combination strap button/output jack and the first "under saddle" piezo pickup.

Barcus-Berry has come to offer the best quality in acoustic-electric violins and transducers and preamps for guitars, brass and woodwind instruments, orchestral instruments, pianos and harps. Barcus-Berry products are favored by leading performers such as Ronnie Milsap, Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones), Jean Jeansonne (Rascal Flatts), Savion Glover (Grammy Award-winning dancer), Brendon Anthony (The Pat Green Band), Downs Thompson (Clay Walker Band), Terry Hale (George Strait), and Daniel Willem.

The "Planar Wave" piano system has an established reputation as the only transducer system of its kind and has become an indispensable working tool for the most professional of piano engineers. Barcus-Berry has continued to make history with technologically advanced systems offering unparalleled accuracy and immunity to feedback. Today, Barcus-Berry borrows from its illustrious heritage to bring the newest generation of products which allow musicians freedom of expression through true acoustic sound.

Jean Jeansonne, Fiddler, Rascal Flatts

Vibrato-AE Violin (BAR-AEVB) in Barcus-Berry Blue and (1320) Violin Bridge Transducer.

"I've always been impressed at the quality and sustainability of the Barcus Berry 1320 violin bridge pickup and have only replaced it once after using it for 13 years on my fiddle," said John Jeansonne, Rascal Flatts fiddler. "The new Barcus-Berry Vibrato-AE violin has proven equally brilliant and provided impeccable sound quality this year at the AMAs." Bio: Rascal Flatts was named Vocal Group of the Year by the Country Music Association (CMA) in 2003, 2004 and 2005. John Jeansonne joined the group in 2002 where his gifted fiddle playing has contributed to the band's many achievements. Jeansonne has over 27 years of expertise in fiddle playing and has played with a variety of well-known groups. Prior to Rascal Flatts, Jeansonne backed country-recording artist Lee Ann Womack, and he has twice won the Louisiana State Fiddle Championships. Downs Thompson, Fiddler, Clay Walker Band

Vibrato-AE Violin (BAR-AEVB) in Barcus-Berry Blue

Quote: "I have tried a number of electric violins on the market, and Barcus-Berry acoustic-electric violins offer the most natural tone and response of any I've tried," said Downs Thompson, Clay Walker fiddler. "Two thumbs up as well from our pro sound managers and the rest of the band for both the look and sound of the violin." Bio: Downs Thompson, professional fiddle-player, currently performs with country music headliner, Clay Walker. He has also recorded and performed with artists including Charlie Daniels, Shelby Lynne, David Ball, Larry Coryell, Brett Mason, Rhett Akins and Charlie McCoy. Downs has toured with the Clay Walker band and on his own, Downs has recorded an album of Irish-inspired music with legendary harmonicist Charlie McCoy for release on the French Label Vox Terrae. Downs has been playing the violin for over 37 years. He studied and played in Europe for 13 years, moved to Nashville in the early 90's and then finally to Southern California where he has been playing and teaching since 2001.

Brendon Anthony, Fiddler, The Pat Green Band

Vibrato-AE Violin (BAR-AEVR) in Red-Berry Burst and the (1320) Violin Bridge Transducer.

Quote: "Barcus-Berry has always provided state-of-the-art acoustic reproduction. I have used and very much trusted Barcus-Berry products for many years and will continue to do so. From acoustic violin pickups to acoustic-electric instruments, Barcus-Berry products continue to perform well in every circumstance and for any application my band or I may require. Barcus-Berry has been the signature instrument for many of my music mentors growing up, and I am now proud to play one as well, night after night. The moment I plugged in my first Barcus-Berry violin into an amp to play, the sound was so pure. It was true music to my ears, and I realized immediately that I found the violin I have always been looking for. The most important component of music, the musical tone, was found in Barcus-Berry. I play my Barcus-Berry violin literally everywhere, including at live concert performances, TV shows like David Letterman, records, singles, random recording sessions, band rehearsals, DVDs, jam sessions, music videos.... Barcus-Berry has become a signature of mine, just like Barcus-Berry has for Eileen Ivers or Papa John Creach. I feel as if Barcus-Berry is part of my own identity because of the way it plays and the way I play it." Bio: Brendon Anthony joined the Pat Green Band in 1996 and has recorded eight albums with his Barcus-Berry violin, including George's Bar, Here We Go, Live at Billy Bob's, Carry On, Songs We Wish We'd Written, Three Days, Wave on Wave and Lucky Ones. Brendon has also recorded with Cory Morrow, Roger Creager and several projects with Lloyd Maines. To learn more about Brendon Anthony, please visit The Pat Green Band website at: http://patgreen.com
